Makes five clearances in loss

Abdullaev generated two tackles (one won), five clearances and three interceptions in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to Portugal.

Analysis: Like the other center-backs, Rustamjon Ashurmatov and Abdukodir Khusanov, Abdullaev was under heavy pressure throughout the game. He posted a solid stat line, but the five goals conceded can't be overlooked. Abdullaev has started and gone the full 90 in the two matches. Don't expect him to move to a bench role in the group-stage finale vs DR Congo on Saturday.

Records six clearances

Abdullaev recorded two tackles (one won) and six clearances in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat against Colombia.

Analysis: Abdullaev delivered one of Uzbekistan's more composed defensive performances in Wednesday's 1-3 defeat to Colombia, registering two tackles (one won) and six clearances as the central defensive pivot in a back three that was repeatedly exposed by Colombia's pace and creativity on the flanks. The centre-back won the majority of his direct duels and was physically dominant in the air, but was ultimately unable to prevent a Colombian attack featuring Luis Diaz and Jhon Arias from finding the gaps around him throughout the second half. His physicality and aerial dominance make him an important defensive anchor for Uzbekistan heading into their remaining group fixtures, and a more compact team structure around him will be essential if they are to spring a surprise against Portugal and Congo.
