Five clearances among others
Lee logged five clearances, an interception and a tackle won during the Korea Republic's 1-0 loss Wednesday against South Africa.
Analysis: Up until South Africa scored a goal, the RSA offense was greatly active, resulting in Korea's 15 clearances Wednesday. Among them, Lee logged the most, all from right center-back again. During the World Cup's group stage, he not only recorded 13 clearances but also tallied four-plus of them twice, the only Korean to do so. Lee also logged two interceptions and as many tackles won, providing much-needed stability to a relatively unproven defense that may have saved the Korea Republic from falling deeper.
Another shot, less defensive stats
Lee logged one shot (zero on goal), two clearances and one interception during South Korea's 1-0 loss Thursday at Mexico.
Analysis: Once again, Lee was part of a defensive trio including Kim Min-Jae and Lee Gi-Hyuk. Like the Midtjylland defender's previous appearance, he attempted one shot, this time an errant header from a corner by attacking player Lee Kang-in. Compared to Korea's group-stage opener, against the Czech Republic, the defender Lee was far less statistically active Thursday. Against the Czechs, he logged five clearances and one tackle won, meaning both's updated tallies were down compared to last game. At the very least, Lee's interception is a new achievement, and he has provided some stability to an unproven defense.
